Person of Interest

Kathy Vladicka

As the year draws to an end, we would like to celebrate an amazing transformation of a warm and funny woman, whom we have grown very fond of.

Kathy Vladicka came to us in August 2013 with a weightloss goal of over 100lbs, although this seems daunting, she persevered and reached her goal in less than 8 months. This year was an eventful one for Kathy, while on her journey of self-improvement and discovery, she experienced profound loss. We admire her courage and emotional resilience. Kathy’s ability to manage adversity without resorting to destructive behavior is what will help her preserve the positive improvements she has made.

Although her weight loss was relatively quick and convenient on the Ideal Protein weight loss program, Kathy realized that in order to make a long term commitment to her health, she needed to change the way she felt about food. She has started the FitMetabolism program, and we love the insight and wisdom she provides to us coaches!

Kathy continues to be an inspiration to her co-workers and students with her determination, kindness, and forward thinking.

This year Kathy was honored with the APEGA Excellence in teaching Math and Science award, backpacked solo in the Rockies and discovered her inner dancer. We are eagerly anticipating the successes and adventures that are awaiting Kathy in 2015!

Person of Inspiration
Kristine Baans

The staff at Back on Track would like to commend and congratulate a fabulous individual who is mindful, willful and soulful: Kristine Baans.

Kristine is a FIT Metabolism client who has made many changes in her lifestyle and is presently reaping the rewards of her commitment. She has lost weight, changed her shape and incorporated health and exercise into her weekly routine. At Back on Track we are motivated and inspired by Kristine’s willingness to incorporate positive changes into her lifestyle. These changes were initially daunting, but Kristine persevered. Not keen on exercise at the start of her journey, Kristine is now making fitness a part of her weekly routine. She is always at class with a big smile on her face, and we love to hear her distinctive happy laugh!

She has made all these changes while switching careers. Many people would use this as an excuse to not start something new. Kristine has not put up road blocks to better health, she simply found an alternate route.

Tips to tackle the Holiday Temptations!

It’s that time of year again! The time of year where we get to eat and drink and be merry! But sometimes we let temptations get the best of us and end up regretting the choices we’ve made. We have some tips on how to enjoy the holiday season and still feel good about enjoying in the celebrations.

  1. Do some pre-holiday planning. Decide ahead of time how you will handle the different events of the season. For non-festive days, plan healthy meals, and get some exercise every day.
  2. Eat a snack before goint to a party. Have yogurt or fruit, a few crackers with low fat cheese, vegetables or a skim-milk latte – so hunger won’t rule your choices
  3. Indulge – moderately. No need to do without your favorite foods, just take small portions and eat slowly: that way you’ll eat less and savour more. A small taste can satisfy your craving.
  4.  Avoid guilty pleasures you can have anytime, such as chocolates or chips, and go with seasonal favorites such as run-drenched fruitcake. Enjoy, but keep your portions small.
  5.  If you bake cookies and squares in advance, freeze them so they are beyond the reach of temptation, and bring them out only when you need them. Make smaller cookies and cut squares into bit size pieces.
  6.  After the party, send leftovers home with friends, or package them into meals and freeze for later.
  7.  When it comes to beverages, watch those extra calories. Remember to use soda water or diet coke when available.

Happy Holidays and enjoy the festive season!!!

Our New Lifestyle Program – Fit Metabolism!

We’re happy to announce that we have partnered with Fit Metabolism, based out of Calgary, AB, for our new weight loss and lifestyle program. The FitMethod is all about healthy, sustainable weight loss. No starvation…no gimmicks…no counting calories. We are staffed with exceptionally knowledgeable people and scientifically based system customized to your body.

Metabolism Testing – Not ordinary metabolism testing, this gold-standard assessment determines not only your resting metabolic rate, but just how efficient your metabolism is as well. It’s this all-important number that gives us a foundation to build your customized weight loss food plan.

FitFood & Cardio Fat Loss Program – Using the results of the metabolic testing, we create a workable weight loss food plan based on your lifestyle and social needs. This is not about sacrifice or depriving yourself. This is a natural progression from your current diet to a healthier one using the foods you love to eat. On the menu… three meals a day, plus up to three snacks. Suffice it to say… you won’t go hungry! In addition, you’ll have your own at-home, cardiovascular weight loss exercise plan to maximize your results.

Weight Loss Coaching – Your health coach is here for so much more than accountability. Sure, that’s part of the process, but we truly get excited when we see you reaching your goals. You’ll quickly find out that your coach is a trusted and knowledgeable friend who is here to provide compassion and support for your journey and beyond.

Biological Age Assessment – Did you know that poor fitness is the number-one predictor of mortality? What’s more, your biological age and your chronological age usually don’t match. For example, while your body might be 42 years old, your biological factors (weight, activity level, etc.) could actually make you look, feel and behave as if you’re 59. This biological age assessment helps us determine just how old you really are, so we can help you counteract the effects of premature aging.

Please feel free to ask us about our exciting new program next time you are in the store.

The importance of Journaling

Have you ever wondered why the coaches for Ideal Protein ask to bring your journal in every week? It’s quite simple actually, your journal can tell us a lot about your week, regardless of if there is a gain or loss on the scale. The journal can help you and the coaches work through any questions you may have had during the week. It can also be a good indicator of why there was a significant loss, a gain or why you have suddenly hit a plateau. Using the journal will help your coach and you work through the program and make it more enjoyable experience. If you bite it you write it. Studies have shown that people who food journal, while on a weight loss program, will lose twice as much as somebody who doesn’t journal.

Journaling will also be a helpful tool once you start going into the maintenance phases of the program. You are more likely to keep the weight off if you continue to journal after you lose the weight.

The journals are free at Back on Track so please feel free to ask for one when you’re in for your next weigh and measurement appointment.

Erika began the program last March 2012 and successfully lost 45 lbs within 5 months. After taking a diet hiatus, like so many do, Erika returned to Back on Track still down 28 pounds from her original weight. With determination and perseverance Erika began the second leg of her journey. It was not an easy go. She pushed through slow initial losses and has now achieved a weight she has not seen in over 25 years. Within 10 pounds of her goal and 75lbs already lost, soon to be married, and with a clean bill of health she continues to inspire us as coaches, friends, and great admirers.

The importance of Omega 3

After much research, scientists have identified the group of essential fatty acids that was lacking in North American nutrition: Omega 3. Some of the health problems that have been directly linked to Omega 3 deficiencies are Crohn’s disease, diabetes, cancer, allergies, depression, aging, PMS, dry skin and many more.

Omega 3 consumption can help with many things in our life and this is why Omega 3 is now included in the Ideal Protein diet plan. This is a welcome change for the program as it can help with weight problems. Back on Track with Barb is now carrying Omega 3 and will be offered to you on your next visit.

If you have any questions about Omega 3 please feel free to ask us about it next time you’re in.

She is mindful of her journey that she embarked on two years ago when she began her weightloss of over 110 pounds. Willful because it takes great passion, courage and tenacity to make the changes in her life she did. She pours her heart and soul into every client she coaches and every person she works with. Benefits of Water

You need water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to your organs and tissues. It also helps transport oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs. Taking in too litter water or losing too much water leads to dehydration. Symptoms of mild dehydration include thirst, pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation.
